Never has an actress on a soap convinced me so hard with just a simple stare that she was so deeply in love with someone that she would leave her groom at the altar on their wedding and completely turn her life upside down. This being a soap, the best kind of soap, the someone that Melanie Kogler’s character, Marlene, is so painfully in love with is was her future sister-in-law, Rebecca. We had to endure a long, long, long stretch of time when Marlene would shoot Rebecca looks like this while still proclaiming to anyone who would listen that she was deeply in love with her fiancee. No one believed you loved Tristan, Marlene. I don’t even think Tristan believed it. The only thing that kept the storyline going through this time was Melanie Kogler’s looks of pained love as if her heart was about to leap out of her body through her eyeballs. While she constantly denied herself the possibility of a happy ending with Rebecca, we knew the only person she was fooling was herself. Now that she has accepted that Rebecca is her true love, we have been treated to even more dopey looks of love and I love it.
